How we test takeout

Takeaway Tuesday answers one question: how good is this food when it finally gets home? Not how good it is in the restaurant. Not how good it looks in the menu photo. How it survives the drive.

Who reviews the food

Every dish on Takeaway Tuesday is ordered for real, driven home in real LA traffic, timed, and photographed the moment the bag is opened. No comped meals, no restaurant previews. We score what arrives, not what left the kitchen. We pay for every order ourselves. No comped meals, no advance notice, no restaurant previews.

How testing works

  1. 1. A real order

We order the dish the way a normal customer would: standard packaging, standard prep, no special requests. Pickup and delivery runs are both tested and labeled.

  2. 2. A timed drive

We time the trip from the moment the bag is handed over (or the driver drops it at the door) to the moment we open it. Los Angeles traffic, real routes, real minutes. The trip time in every Travel Card is a stopwatch number.

  3. 3. Photos on arrival

We photograph the food the second the containers open, before we eat anything. Those arrival photos are what you see in every review. Nothing is restaged or re-plated.

  4. 4. Scoring

We score the food (travel score, 1 to 10) and the containers (packaging score, 1 to 10) separately, record the temperature on arrival, count approximate bites for price per bite, and answer one question: would we reorder? See what each score means.

One review, every Tuesday

New reviews publish every Tuesday. Coverage starts in the Los Angeles area: Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, and nearby neighborhoods. Every review links to its restaurant, its neighborhood guide, and the full rankings table.
